The paradoxical dimension of thought (part one). Chaos/Cosmos
Abstract
The author describes the paradoxical dimension of thought starting from myth, including scientific one. The paradoxicality is already inscribed in the duality of the god Kronos, then Chronos and Saturn, gods of time and death, who devour everything they create. The paradoxical dimension is inscribed in human nature, in its basic division, in the tragic nature of human existence. Bion’s theoretical system is affected by this paradoxicality, which pervades its entire structure and makes a linear reading difficult, if not impossible. To the dream ensemble, as a set of models that cooperate to construct meaning, we must add an anti-group of models that destroys meaning. To the beta and alpha area we must add this part of the personality, which operates according to the negative grid to build a parallel structure, which creates a delusional system, essential to understand the “catastrophic anguish” and the intrinsic paradoxicality of our thoughts and behaviors.
